For dogs, a home is more than just a place to sleep. After years of sharing a life with the same people, their family and familiar surroundings can become the only world they know. That sense of security was suddenly taken away from Polly, a senior dog whose story was shared in a video after she was surrendered to a shelter when her family moved.
Family leaves senior shelter dog behind when moving and now she’s stuck in a kennel
Polly, a 13-year-old Jindo mix, had spent most of her life as someone’s beloved family pet. But on July 21, her life took an unexpected turn when her owners surrendered her to a shelter because they were relocating, according to a post shared by @californiashelterpets.
A heartbreaking video shows Polly sitting quietly inside a small kennel. The senior dog appears downcast and withdrawn as she waits inside the shelter. The page explained that Polly’s family packed up their belongings for the move but left their longtime companion behind.
After 13 years of having a home and a family, Polly was suddenly in an unfamiliar shelter, seemingly unable to understand why the people she knew were not coming back for her.
According to the post, Polly is listed as a 13-year-old female weighing 52 pounds under the shelter identification number #A5790561. Her owner surrender was recorded on July 21, with the reason listed as a move. The shelter also described her as having low energy.
Despite everything that has happened, Polly is reportedly a “quiet and independent” senior who “mostly keeps to herself.” Her calm nature may make her easy to overlook in a busy shelter. Nonetheless, the video has highlighted just how vulnerable she is at her age.
The situation is particularly urgent because Polly had already passed her final notice and was scheduled to be euthanized. The page urged people to help Polly, adding that she shouldn’t spend her final days alone in a kennel.
