Heartfelt Christmas Wish: Shelter Dog’s Plea to Santa for a Forever Home

A heartrending plea from a shelter dog, Laguna, who has spent over 200 days waiting for a home, is tugging at the world’s heartstrings. Haseya’s New Beginning Animal Rescue in Louisiana recently shared a touching letter written by the three-year-old Labrador and American Staffordshire terrier mix addressed to Santa, expressing her Christmas wish for a loving family.

Laguna’s Search for Love

Since May, Haseya’s New Beginning has been the temporary home for Laguna, but her quest for a permanent family continues. In her poignant letter to Santa, Laguna expressed gratitude for the care she receives but appealed for help in finding her forever home. The rescue organization, founded in 2018, is dedicated to transforming shelters into no-kill facilities and operates solely on donations.

The Ideal Home for Laguna

According to Kelli Briscoe, a representative from Haseya’s New Beginning, Laguna’s ideal home would be with an active family, including children and another adult dog. Described as having “energy for days,” Laguna is a playful, smart pup in need of mental stimulation. Despite her wonderful qualities, no one has shown interest in adopting her during her time at the shelter.

Laguna’s Letter to Santa

In a heartwarming letter to Santa, Laguna shared her story, expressing her desire for a family that appreciates her playful nature. She described herself as a happy and friendly dog who loves playing fetch and going on long walks. Laguna’s plea to Santa is not just a wish for herself but a hopeful message for countless shelter dogs seeking a second chance.

“Hi Santa,
I heard about you from my volunteer friends, and they told me you can help find forever homes for us doggies, so I am really hoping you can help me find one…”

Laguna signed off her letter with love, hoping Santa would consider playing fetch with her if he ever visits the shelter.

The Reality of Pet Shelters in the U.S.

The heartbreaking reality is that millions of pets end up in shelters each year, and the numbers are staggering. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 6.3 million pets are surrendered annually, with an average of 17,260 a day. Despite efforts to promote adoption and reduce euthanasia rates, around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year.

Taking Action: How You Can Help

To make a difference in the lives of dogs like Laguna, consider adopting from shelters, supporting no-kill initiatives, and contributing to organizations like Haseya’s New Beginning Animal Rescue. Every small effort can bring a ray of hope to animals in need.
