Stepping Onto the World Stage

Coming from the humble beginnings of Little Sutton, Joanne Silk-Smith is set to make her mark on an international level at The Dog Grooming World Championships 2024, representing none other than Team England.

The Journey: From a Passionate Groomer to a Competitive Champion

Joanne’s grooming prowess spans over 12 years, which she has dedicated to caring for our four-legged friends. Her venture, K9Transfurmations, is a well-established grooming business since 2018, nestled in the heart of Ledsham.

Specialization: The Art of Grooming Cocker Spaniels

Her expertise lies in grooming the exquisite breed of cocker spaniels, a skill that has led her to compete in dog grooming competitions across the country every six to eight weeks.

The Competition: Points for Glory

The 42-year-old master groomer explained, “When I compete in competitions, there is a points system. Achieving first place grants you five points, second place bags four, and there’s an extra point for best in show. Whoever accumulates the most points in each category over the span of two years is chosen to move forward onto the England team.”

The Dog Grooming World Championships 2024: A Dream Team

With a date and location yet to be confirmed, Joanne will compete in the Spaniel and Setter category, alongside other talented groomers. Joining her are Nancy Brincat (Pure breed scissors), Julia Fox (Handstrip), and Christine Anderton (Poodle).

In the previous competition, held in 2022, England was the proud holder of the winning trophy, a feat Joanne hopes to repeat.

Looking Forward: Chasing a Lifelong Dream

For Joanne, this opportunity is the culmination of her hard work and dedication. Having previously supported the England team at the last competition amidst competitors from around 32 other countries, this is a dream come true. “I have always believed that I could do it,” Joanne said, “and now that I’ve finally achieved my dreams, it’s quite a wonderful feeling.”
