Who needs a toy box when there is already a dog’s collection waiting in the hallway? A visiting toddler seems to have taken one look at the toys belonging to Australian Shepherd Koda and decided there was plenty to work with. The video from @wigglebutt_koda shows the little girl picking up one of Koda’s ball toys with her mouth, carrying it over to her mom and waiting for it to be thrown. Soon, the toddler is happily repeating the whole routine, apparently having learned the basics of fetch without anyone sitting her down for a lesson. The only thing she copied a little too closely was how the ball gets picked up.
Dog accidentally teaches toddler to pick up the fetch ball with her mouth
The visit starts by explaining a problem for mom’s friends and their toddler: there aren’t any toys for the toddler to play with. Luckily, Koda has plenty. When the video starts, the toddler has already spotted one of the dog’s ball toys in the hallway and is bending down to pick it up. Only, she picks it up with her mouth.
She looks toward the person filming for a moment, then carries the ball straight over to her mom on the couch. Mom seems amused, and the game appears already underway. The toddler climbs onto the couch, while Koda watches from nearby. Then she puts the ball down in front of her mom, who throws it across the room.
The toddler then heads after the ball, gets down on the floor, and picks it up with her mouth again. Then she brings it back, drops it in front of mom, and waits for another throw. The familiar routine is quite clear.
The caption from @wigglebutt_koda says, “Don’t worry, I got some toys for her now.”
The clip has gone viral, earning more than 213,000 likes, and viewers couldn’t stop talking about the toddler’s game. One commenter called her a “Toddler Retriever,” while another joked about “toddlers in canine dominated field.” Someone else pointed out, “Not the dogs letting her win too.”
