Bayou’s family has a very specific name for the new white spots appearing on her face and body, and it’s hard not to smile when they share it. The Decker Terrier appears in an older shot standing on the deck, then relaxing on a blanket, and later walking over to her human. The video, posted by @auggieandthedoggies, cuts to Bayou today, with white patches scattered across her coat and around her face. The text simply changes from “before vitiligo…” to “now,” documenting the dog’s vitiligo transformation. Her human gently pets her spotted face, and Bayou looks just as lovely as ever. At home, those markings have earned a much sweeter name: “her baby deer spots.”

A dog’s vitiligo markings earn the affectionate nickname ‘baby deer spots’

The transformation is easy to notice, but Bayou’s personality doesn’t need a before-and-after comparison. She’s still the same dog her family knows and loves. In the earlier clips, Bayou stands outside, rests on a blanket, and approaches the person filming with a curious look. Then comes the more recent footage, where the white markings are visible across her body and around her face.

Her human reaches down to stroke her face, and Bayou accepts the affection without fuss. It is just a familiar and tender moment between a dog and the person who loves her.

Vitiligo is a condition that causes patches of skin and fur to lose their pigment. In dogs, it can create pale or white markings that become more noticeable over time. Bayou’s family has chosen to call hers “baby deer spots,” a name that feels affectionate without making a big deal of the change.

And the comments are full of people admiring her, too. One person described the markings as “star sparkles all over,” while another said, “It’s like little stars all over her.” Others were just as clear that the spots haven’t taken away from her looks. “Absolutely still gorgeous now,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “Pretty as ever.”

The video of this dog’s vitiligo transformation has earned 34,500 likes, and the response makes sense. People are noticing Bayou’s new markings, but they’re also responding to the tenderness in the way her human pets her face.
