An Unexpected Inheritance
In an extraordinary display of feline affection, a quirky Florida woman, Nancy Sauer, bequeathed her prized $2.5 million mansion and a substantial inheritance to her seven cherished Persian cats. The recent passing of the 84-year-old has led to a flurry of attention around her unconventional last will and testament.

The privileged cats – Cleopatra, Goldfinger, Leo, Midnight, Napoleon, Snowball, and Squeaky – were showered with love by Sauer, whose will dictated they must stay in their Tampa estate, as separating them would cause unnecessary distress, reported by the Tampa Bay Times.
“She loved them so much,” said Sauer’s friend, Yana Alban, in a heartwarming tribute to the late cat lover. “The deal is that the house was not to be sold until the last cat passed.”
Cats in a Golden Cradle
The financial provisions for these felines were significant, according to Sherry Silk, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Enough to cover their luxurious lifestyle, which included medical check-ups, grooming, and food expenses, indefinitely.
The cats lived a high life in the mansion for six months after Sauer’s passing, enjoying their inheritance until a Hillsborough County probate judge recently ruled they needed more attentive care.
“Cats shouldn’t be left by themselves in a big house. I am going to personally make sure that we can keep as many together as we can and that they go to the perfect house,” assured Silk.
Furry Millionaires: Up for Adoption
The cats are set to find new homes this week. Yet, the legacy of their previous owner, Nancy Sauer, will continue to surround them. Known for her love of shopping and her entrepreneurial spirit, she left a lasting impression as a fervent cat lover.
This inheritance story certainly draws parallels with a 2007 incident where New York real estate baroness Leona Helmsley left her dog a $12 million trust fund. However, Sauer’s story serves as a stark reminder of the unique bond between humans and their pets.
These cats certainly pounced on a windfall.
