In the video shared by @sammys_chairot_of_fire, one little boy comes up with his own way to help his disabled dog, Sammy, and it’s about as sweet as it gets. Without anyone asking, he sets up a tiny snack stand in the front yard, hoping to raise money for Sammy’s care. Kids often pick up on more than adults realize. And Roan had clearly noticed his mom was carrying a lot on her own. At first glance, it looks like any little roadside snack stand. Then you read the sign, and suddenly it means something much bigger.
Little boy’s gesture for disabled dog proves love knows no bounds sometimes
The video begins with Sammy resting beside the little stand under the shade of a tree. His mom, Ruth, is filming from the front door. Fighting back tears, she explains that her son wanted to try raising money so Sammy could get better care. As she walks outside, the camera briefly catches Sammy’s wheelchair near the house. She mentions that her therapy dog could really use a new one but admits she’s been struggling to make it happen.
Then she reaches her son and asks him to read his sign aloud. Roan proudly turns his handwritten sign around and reads it aloud: snacks and drinks are just one dollar because he’s raising money for his disabled dog. His spelling isn’t perfect, something his mom later explains is because he has dyslexia, but none of that changes what the sign means.
They sat there together for two hours, but nobody stopped. His mom gently says, “It’s the thought that counts,” though it’s obvious she’s deeply touched by what her son tried to do.
That simple act didn’t stay small for long. After the video spread online, thousands of people asked how they could help. A fundraiser was launched, more than $23,000 was raised, and Sammy even received a brand-new wheelchair through the generosity of a longtime supporter. All the extra money is going to be donated to the rescue Sammy came from, Churchill Animal Protection Society (CAPS).
According to the family’s fundraiser, Sammy has been by Roan’s side through years of dyslexia tutoring. And now Roan has found his own way to stand beside Sammy. Viewers were overwhelmed by Roan’s kindness. Many offered donations, others promised to stop by for snacks if they were in town. Countless other people called him a compassionate young man. Roan sure is.
