Some shelter dogs keep hoping, even after being overlooked more times than anyone can count. French Toast is one of them. She has spent months watching people walk past her kennel, but one day turned out a little differently. In a touching video shared by @cassondrachristman, the sweet senior shelter dog gets dressed up for a special outing after another morning of being passed by. The fun makeover soon becomes wholesome, as strangers stop one after another just to tell her how beautiful she is.

The video opens with French Toast sitting inside her kennel at Maui Humane Society, facing the mesh door instead of the camera. She’s watching every person who walks by, almost as if she’s hoping the next one will stop for her. On-screen text explains that she’d spent the entire morning being passed over while hearing other dogs receive compliments instead.
That’s when Cassondra decides to change the mood. She walks into the kennel carrying a bag filled with outfits and accessories, then gives French Toast a full makeover. The senior pup patiently sits through every bit of it, wearing a pink dress with a fluffy tutu skirt, a string of pearls, and a bow. Between kisses and cuddles from her volunteer, she already seems brighter before they’ve even left the shelter.
The reaction starts almost immediately. Before French Toast even reaches the parking lot, volunteers stop to admire her outfit and tell her how pretty she looks. Her tail keeps wagging as one person after another bends down to say hello. Then we see her climbing happily into the car for the next part of her adventure.
The pair even squeeze in a few selfies before heading to the mall with an “Adopt Me” leash clipped on. There, French Toast becomes the center of attention. Families, shoppers, and strangers stop to pet her, compliment her dress, and ask about her. She happily hands out kisses, and seems to enjoy every second of feeling noticed.
No adoption happens that day, but the outing still gives her something she’d been missing for months. Back at the shelter, French Toast lets Cassondra remove her dress and pearls before covering her with grateful kisses. Then it’s back into her kennel, where she’s been waiting for nearly five months.
