Your black Labrador retriever is no longer a puppy at 7 months old. She should be nearly full adult height, but not quite there yet in terms of weight. Male and female Labs develop to various sizes, therefore she won’t be the same size as a male at this age.
Size
The typical female black Lab stands between 21 and 24 inches tall at the withers, or shoulders, from the ground, but even purebred dogs may grow larger or smaller. Males grow to be between 22 and 25 inches tall. Most dogs achieve 75 percent of their full adult height by the age of six months, so your seven-month-old black Lab should stand between 15 and 18 inches tall.
Weight
A healthy mature black Lab female weighs between 55 and 70 pounds, while a male weighs between 65 and 80 pounds. Black Lab pups achieve about two-thirds of their mature weight by the age of six months, so a seven-month-old dog should be in this range or slightly heavier. Your female black Lab puppy should weigh between 40 and 50 pounds, while a male puppy should weigh between 45 and 55 pounds, based on 70 percent of the average female adult weight.
Paws
From the age of 4 months to about 7 months Black Lab pups go through a period when their legs seem to develop considerably quicker than the rest of their body. With long, gangly legs and large paws, they have the appearance of an adolescent. They develop into proportion by the age of one, but your black Lab’s legs are likely still too long for her body at seven months. Her paws, on the other hand, are likely to reach full adult size, making them seem bigger because they are out of proportion with the rest of her youthful body.
Muscle
Your black Lab’s muscles haven’t completely grown at the age of seven months. Labs attain adulthood at approximately 12 to 18 months as a large-breed dog, but some take even longer. Though her height is nearly that of an adult dog, a nonadult black Lab may seem thin and slink along like a cat as she walks: she has months to fill out before she fills out.
