Young Girl Suffers Horrific Mauling by Family Pet: American Bull Terrier Attack in Melbourne
Terrifying Incident: 12-Year-Old Niki Mauled by Family’s American Bull Terrier
A horrifying incident unfolded at a suburban home in Melbourne’s Drouin, leaving 12-year-old Niki Chrysanthopoulos with severe, life-changing injuries after being viciously mauled by her family’s beloved pet, an American Bull Terrier.
An Unexpected Attack
Thursday afternoon turned into a nightmare for young Niki when she returned home from school. Without warning, the once gentle canine turned aggressive, launching a savage attack on the unsuspecting girl.
The Gruesome Consequences
The intensity of the assault was alarming, as part of Niki’s lip was torn off, and her teeth were violently displaced. With deep wounds requiring 20 stitches, her family fears that some injuries may have lasting effects.
A Frightening Turn of Events
The harrowing attack occurred as Niki leaned down to give the dog a loving kiss, prompting it to growl and subsequently latch onto her face.
“I just started screaming,” Niki recalled, recounting the terrifying ordeal.
A Mother’s Immediate Decision
Reacting swiftly to protect her daughter, Niki’s mother, Tanya, wasted no time in deciding to put the dog down. Despite its previously gentle nature, the dog’s sudden transformation demanded immediate action.
“He’s hurt my baby. At the end of the day, if a dog does that, it needs to be put down,” Tanya asserted firmly.
Road to Recovery
Niki’s journey to recovery is anticipated to be lengthy and complex. Multiple surgeries, including facial reconstructive and dental procedures, may be necessary to address the extensive injuries.
Community Support
In response to the distressing incident, a family friend, Carolyn Lawrence, established a fundraiser on GoFundMe to assist with the mounting medical expenses. The heartfelt initiative aims to alleviate some of the burdens faced by Niki and her family during this difficult time.
“Our hearts go out to Niki and her family, and we are determined to lend a helping hand in their hour of need,” expressed Ms. Lawrence.
