Leave the internet alone with one slightly dramatic facial expression, and it’ll happily invent a whole storyline. That’s exactly what happened in a video shared by @ladyandtheblues, where a toddler appears to be cuddling one Golden Retriever while the other waits nearby. Before long, comments started wondering if Lily was being left out.
The family, however, had the sweetest response. They simply let the clips speak for themselves. It just proves there are more than enough hugs to go around in this house.
Toddler makes sure both Golden Retrievers get the same amount of love and hugs
The video opens on a picture-worthy woodland path where little Olivia stands next to Lady and Lily. She rests her head against Lady before giving her a little kiss while Lily sits ordinarily beside them. On-screen comment overlays pop up one after another, with viewers saying things like, “Poor Lily. Always the 3rd wheel,” and, “Poor Lily looks so sad.”
Back at home, the clips continue in much the same way. Olivia curls up against Lady’s belly, hugs her during a walk, and happily leans on her while Lily wanders in and out of the frame. More comments appear asking whether Lily feels left out or if Olivia simply loves Lady more.
Then the video flips the whole story around. Suddenly, it’s Lily’s turn. Olivia wraps her arms around her on a walk. The toddler boops her nose against the younger Golden Retriever while hugging her. She later tucks a blanket over her while she naps, and even rests her own head on top of it.
The pair chase each other through the yard, splash around with a garden hose, play with a balloon in the living room, and trot around together carrying a toy. By the end, it’s pretty clear there was never any rivalry at all. Lady and Olivia may share one kind of bond, while Lily and the little girl have found one that’s completely their own.
The post picked up more than 97,000 likes in less than a day, with one viewer writing, “There’s enough love to go around for everyone.” As per this toddler, every Golden Retriever in the family gets plenty of hugs — just not always at the exact same moment.
