Senior Blind Dog Experiences Unconditional Love and Care from Shelter Cats
Shelter Cats Offer Extra Care to a Special Dog
At the Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir (SARA) in Morocco, an endearing story unfolds as cats instinctively provide affectionate massages to Tam, a senior resident dog with unique needs. Being one of the oldest inhabitants at the farm, Tam and his sibling, Daccia, are living with a rare connective tissue disorder, Ehler-Danlos syndrome (EDS). This ailment renders their skin extremely delicate, leading to superficial scars. Moreover, Tam navigates life blindly.
Despite these adversities, Tam exhibits a resilient spirit, engaging in play, and building friendly bonds with his feline friends in the shelter. A remarkable sight often witnessed is when Tam decides to nap, there’s inevitably a cat or two curled up beside him.
Unwavering Feline Affection: A Touching Tale
A cat named Elodie, along with other feline companions at the rescue, seems to understand Tam’s special care requirements. They take turns massaging him, offering him much-needed comfort. “They graciously gift him with moments of gentle care and unwavering affection,” as captured in this heartwarming clip: video.
Tam and Daccia were born at SARA. While the other puppies in their litter found homes, they remained at the shelter due to their EDS diagnosis. The duo shares a deep bond and their most delightful playtimes are usually upon waking up and just before retiring for the night.
A Safe Haven for Vulnerable Pets
SARA operates three shelters, offering sanctuary to senior and sick dogs, and those recently rescued and ready for adoption. Alongside this, they house nearly 200 homeless cats, providing a safe and nurturing environment for all these animals.
Tam’s life at SARA, although challenging, is filled with love and care, especially from his feline friends. These animals’ unselfish acts of kindness serve as beautiful lessons for us all, teaching us about unconditional love and compassion.
