A baby learning to walk is exciting for everyone in the house, except maybe the dog who suddenly has a mobile little fan following him around. Olaf, a Samoyed featured on @olafthesnowbear, seems to realize pretty quickly that his little sister’s new skill could seriously affect his personal space.
She waddles toward him in the kitchen, and Olaf makes a quick exit. When she tries to pet him later, he backs away, ducks his head, and keeps a close eye on her feet. Olaf is still the big brother, but this dog has clearly decided that the duties need some renegotiation.
Dog’s sweet reputation gets a funny reality check once his little sister gets moving
Olaf has more than 31,000 followers watching his Samoyed life online, so plenty of people are already familiar with his good-boy reputation. This particular post gives that reputation a pretty funny behind-the-scenes update. “Everyone thinks Olaf is such a good big brother… but behind the scenes,” the caption says. And the footage makes a strong case for that second part.
The little girl has just figured out how to walk, and she heads toward Olaf in the kitchen with that careful, wobbly toddler pace. Olaf sees her coming and immediately moves away. When his face comes into view, he looks toward mom as if she might help. But there isn’t much relief waiting for him.
In the next scene, the toddler stands beside her playpen and reaches out to pet Olaf. He keeps stepping backward, even lowering his head as he tries to avoid the approaching hand. It’s not dramatic. He just really does not want to participate.
Then Olaf takes up position on his elevated bed across the playpen. He isn’t even lying down because he stays ready to scoot, keeping an eye on his sister as she moves around the pen. The on-screen question asks, “Big brother duties?” Olaf’s answer arrives when she starts heading his way. “Absolutely not.”
The comments clearly enjoyed his reaction. One person joked, “Who gave her legs?!”, while another imagined Olaf wondering when exactly she learned to walk. Someone else summed up the new problem as “No more personal space, Olaf bear.” That may be the part Olaf is still trying to process.
