‘Operation Skin and Bones’: A Courageous Rescue of Over 70 Dogs in Mississippi from Severe Cruelty and Neglect
A Devastating Discovery in Newton, Mississippi
In a daunting two-day operation, staff and volunteers from the Animal Rescue Corps have rescued more than 70 dogs and puppies from two properties in Newton, Mississippi. The helpless animals were subjected to a heartbreaking level of cruelty and neglect, left to languish without food, water, and essential medical care in the sweltering heat.
Many of these dogs endured harrowing conditions, chained up and exhibiting severe dental damage, including ground and missing teeth, likely the result of desperate attempts to free themselves from their heavy shackles.
A Gruesome Scene Unveiled
Rescuers reported the tragic discovery of at least 15 sets of remains on the properties — some confined in small cages where dogs breathed their last, others scattered around the premises. Judging by the number of bones strewn across the properties, the count of deceased dogs could sadly be much higher.
The surviving dogs bear the stark signs of severe neglect: parasite infestations, emaciation, dehydration, and untreated illnesses and injuries.
‘Operation Skin and Bones’: A Mission of Compassion and Justice
This mammoth rescue effort, aptly named ‘Operation Skin and Bones’, has resulted in the previous rescue owners from Second Paw Dog Rescue facing felony animal neglect charges. Aiding in this significant rescue operation is Cathy Bissell and the BISSELL Pet Foundation, who have generously offered a challenge match of $20,000. This means that every gift given can potentially be doubled, helping these rescuers go twice as far in their efforts to aid these innocent victims of neglect.
