Wally may have faced bigger challenges than a phone charger, but today, this particular piece of cord is where he draws the line. The 70-pound American Staffordshire Terrier stops dead when he finds the charger hanging barely an inch above the floor, and nothing Mom says can convince him to take one step over it. In the video shared by @wally_the_pit, the big dog gets scared of the cord, and the situation turns into a full tantrum. There’s barking, staring, and several increasingly desperate attempts from mom. Wally wants that cord gone, and he is prepared to make his feelings very clear.
Big dog throws a tantrum over a cord dangling an inch above the ground
In the video, Wally stands behind the charger cord, and it is immediately clear that he has no intention of crossing it. “This is ridiculous,” the pet parent tells him. Wally looks at her, then the cord, before barking. Mom encourages him to step over it, but he only complains more.
Then she zooms in to show the problem: the cord is barely off the ground. “Wallace, it’s one inch off the ground. One inch.” Wally remains unconvinced. Mom tries again. “Come on, you got it.” His expression seems to say that, actually, he does not “got it”.
The dog knows how to throw a tantrum and continues with more barking, even after Mom promises, “You can, you can really do it, I promise.” That is when she reminds him that he used to do agility. “Jump.” But Wally simply stares at her.
Even a more enthusiastic, higher-pitched “Okay, let’s go!” fails to move him. Eventually, mom gives up and lowers the cord to the floor, but Wally still does not want to deal with it. The solution comes when she lifts the cord out of his way. Wally walks underneath and quickly takes off.
This funny dog obstacle video has earned more than 3.9K likes. One commenter joked that the cord was clearly “an impenetrable barrier,” while another thanked mom for moving the “big scary obstacle.”
Mom’s caption explains why the whole thing caught her off guard: Wallace is normally “the most confident and neutral dog,” aside from his fear of the oven. Apparently, though, a charger cord is all it takes to bring that confidence to a temporary halt.
